A person having control of or managing a house in multiple occupation (HMO) which is required to be licensed under Part 2 of the Housing Act 2004 may apply to the Council for a Temporary Exemption Notice (TEN).
A TEN may only be applied for if the person having control of or managing the HMO is taking, or intends to take, particular steps with a view to securing that the HMO is no longer required to be licensed.
If a TEN application is successful, the person having control of or managing the HMO will be granted a three-month period during which there is no legal requirement to license the HMO.
It is an offence to provide false or misleading information in a TEN application.
